About Emma-Jane

I am a registered midwife, trained KG Hypnobirthing instructor, former university lecturer, mother of two girls, and resident of Highams Park.

I have a first class honours degree in midwifery from King’s College London. My dissertation was on women’s experience of a diagnosis of tongue-tie. My training was at St. Thomas’ Hospital, where I worked part-time once qualified. I had a lovely homebirth with my second daughter while I was a student.

Before training as a midwife I was a university researcher and senior lecturer in education development. I have lots of experience of qualitative research – talking to people and observing interactions – in the context of healthcare and learning, and learning for healthcare practice. I had my first daughter at Whipps Cross Hospital (a transfer-in from home due to a looooong latent phase) while I was a researcher, just completing a project looking at teamworking on delivery suites.

I started my career with a PhD from City, University of London, in which I developed e-learning for patients and nurses about living with diabetes.

I am a feminist and am deeply passionate about supporting women, managing expectations, smoothing the transition to motherhood and helping women to make informed choices.

I have lived in lovely Highams Park for nearly 7 years. Before that, we lived in Walthamstow, right next to St James’ Park. From September 2018 until the closure of the service in January 2019, I was a midwife working across Waltham Forest with Neighbourhood Midwives, carrying a personal caseload of women whom I cared for from booking to discharge at 28 days postnatal. I am excited to be able to offer the same continuity of care as an independent midwife, and I hope you’ll choose me to support you in your journey.
